Chapter 17, “Mediterranean Europe”

 

Monday –

Section 1, “Spain and Portugal”  pages 349-353

vocabulary:  navigable, dry farming, sirocco, hub

Students will learn that the history, culture,and location of Spain and Portugal help to distinguish them from other European nations.

 

Tuesday –

Section 2, “Italy”  pages 354-358

vocabulary:  seismic activity, subsidence, Renaissance

Students will learn that Italy’s physical characteristics and economic activities divide the nation into three distinct regions.

 

Wednesday –

Section 3, “Greece”  pages 362-365

vocabulary:  graben, inhabitable, tsunami

Students will learn that throughout its long history, Greece has benefited from agriculture, trade, and cultural exchange.

 

Thursday –

Map Test over Western Europe

Matching Test over European capital cities with their countries

Chapter 17 Review,  pages 366-367

Students will work in small groups discussing and answering questions.

 

Friday –

Video presentation – How the States Got Their Shapes

“The Great Plains, Trains, and Automobiles”

Students will learn how transportation methods helped define our borders and affect the progress of our country.
