Students will learn about the physical landscapes, culture, and history of South Asia.

 

Friday- Research in PLATO Lab for video presentations next week over South Asian countries.

Chapter 27 – East and Southern Africa

 

Monday – Section 1, “Kenya”  pages 565-568

vocabulary:  harambee, pyrethrum, malnutrition

Students will learn that a spirit of of cooperation has helped to develop its economy, especially in cash crop agriculture.

Section 2, “Other Countries of East Africa”  pages 569-572

vocabulary:  strategic value, ethnocracy, villagization

Students will learn that regional conflicts and drought leading to famine have disrupted many East African nations.

Monday-  Section 1, “The Sahel”  pages 541-546

vocabulary:  shifting agriculture, forage, deforestation, desertification, refugee, landlocked, inland delta

Students will learn that the Sahel was once the site of influential African cultures and today is home to a number of countries that struggle to be self-sufficient.

 

Tuesday-  Section 2, “The Coastal Countries”  pages 547-550

Students will learn that most countries along the coast of West Africa have been in political and economic turmoil since achieving independence.
