Tuesday –

Finish discussion of Chapter 1, Section 1

Section 2, “Changes Within the Earth”  pages 44-51

vocabulary terms:  core, mantle, crust, lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, continent, relief, plate tectonics, continental drift theory, Ring of Fire

Students will learn that the physical processes that originate within the earth shape the world on which we live.

 

Wednesday –

Section 3, “Changes on the Earth’s Surface”  pages 52-57

vocabulary terms:  weathering, mechanical weathering, chemical weathering, acid rain, erosion, sediment, loess, glacier, moraine

Students will learn that the surface forces of weathering and erosion affect the earth’s appearance.

 

Thursday –

Chapter 1 Review and Assessment, pages 58-59 (work together in small groups)

Study for Test

 

Friday –

Chapter 1 Test

Preview Chapter 2, “Climates and Ecosystems”

Chapter 1 – Physical and Human Geography

Section 1, “The Study of Geography”  pages 35-42

Write vocabulary terms in notebook:  geography, GIS, absolute location, hemisphere, relative location, character of a place, perception, formal region, functional region, perceptual region

Students will learn that geographers use a variety of methods to collect, organize, and analyze information about the world.

 

Friday –

“How the States Got Their Shapes” introduction video

Students will learn about the history, geography, government, and culture that helped to define our country’s state borders.
