Monday-

Chapter 29 – The Countries of South Asia

Section 1 – “Road to Independence” pages 607-610

vocabulary:  nationalism, nonviolent resistance, boycott, partition

Students will learn that India’s independence movement was nonviolent, unlike Pakistan and Bangladesh.

 

Tuesday-

Section 2, “India’s People and Economy”  pages 614-619

vocabulary:  reincarnation, caste system, charpoy, sari, purdah, joint family system, cottage industry

Students will learn that ancient cultural traditions continue to affect daily life for many people throughout modern India.

 

Wednesday-

Section 3, “Other Countries of South Asia”  pages 620-625

vocabulary:  hydroelectric power, irrigate, embankment dam, buffer state, malnutrition, deforestation

Students will learn that although their physical characteristics differ, India’s neighbors share many of India’s political and social challenges.

 

Thursday-   Video presentations over South Asian countries
