Monday-     Unit 4 Preview – Western Europe pages 286-301

Chapter 15 – The British Isles and Nordic Nations

Section 1 – “England”  pages 305-309

Vocabulary:  fertile, ore, tertiary economic activity

Students will learn how resources, trade, and industrial innovation helped the small nation of Britain to become a global economic power.

Tuesday-     Chapter 15, Section 2  “Scotland and Wales”  pages 310-313

Vocabulary:  moor, bog, glen

Students will learn that although united with England politically, Scotland and Wales have some distinctive physical and cultural characteristics.

Wednesday-  Chapter 15, Section 3  “The Two Irelands”  pages 315-317

Vocabulary:  peat, cultural divergence, blight

Students will learn that by ending civil conflict and attracting high-tech industry, Ireland hopes to escape a troubled past.

Section 3 Guided Reading/Quiz

 

Thursday-  Chapter 15, Section 4  “The Nordic Nations”  pages 318-321

Vocabulary:  fjord, geothermal energy, mixed economy

Students will learn that similar physical characteristics, climates, and cultures are shared by the Nordic nations of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.

Work in groups on presentation of assigned European country that will be presented on Monday, November 19th.
