Students will learn that although France has varied physical characteristics, its shared history and language encourage national unity.
Tuesday –
Section 2, “Germany” pages 331-335
vocabulary: confederation, reparation, inflation, lignite
Students will learn that after a long and difficult struggle to achieve national unity, Germany became a world economic power, in the 1800’s and 1900’s.
Wednesday –
Section 3, “The Benelux Countries” pages 337-339
vocabulary: dike, polder, decentralize
Students will learn that the low-lying countries of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg are a small but important part of central Western Europe.
Thursday –
Section 4, “Switzerland and Austria” pages 342-345
vocabulary: canton, neutral, perishable good, strip mining
Students will learn that although Switzerland and Austria share physical characteristics, their cultures and economies are distinct.
Friday –
Chapter 16 Review, pages 346-347
Students will work in small groups discussing questions over central Western Europe.
