Chapter 34 – The Pacific World and Antarctica

 

Monday-  Section 1, “Australia”  pages 717-723

vocabulary:  Aborigine, lagoon, cyclone, outback, artesian well

Students will learn that Australia is a vast land with diverse physical characteristics and a relatively small population.

Tuesday-  Section 2, “New Zealand and the Pacific Islands”  pages 726-731

vocabulary:  geyser, trust territory

Students will learn that New Zealand and the Pacific Islands are distinct island groups spread across a wide ocean.

Wednesday-  Section 3, “Antarctica”  pages 733-737

vocabulary:  crevasse, ice shelf, pack ice, convergence zone, krill

Students will learn that Antarctica is covered by several different forms of ice, which affect climate, wildlife habitation, and exploration.
